Double-crested Cormorant

Synopsis: Breeds widely along coastline and up the Columbia River, in recent years as far as Portland. Breeding at many other locations is less certain. Most notable are the records from Union County (breeding) and central Oregon (possible breeding in Jefferson, Crook, Wheeler, Grant Counties).

Relative Detectability: Easy to detect individuals, but colonies are sometimes at remote locations so confirming breeding is difficult. Nests near water, often on pilings or in dead trees. Pairs of this species were not considered evidence of Probable breeding.

Challenge: Confirm breeding in central Oregon and at other locations along Columbia River.
